Love List 7

It's been a while since we've had a Love List on this blog, so I thought it was time to bring that feature back. Ever since I was younger, making 'wish lists' has always been one of my favorite activities (it's probably why I spend so much time on Pinterest). Right now, since I'm trying to both start an online store, pay off student debt and finish writing/self publish my stories, money is a little tight, and I find that making the Love List posts really inspires me to go crafting things I want/need.

Except shoes. Until I figure out how to make those, and then there will be no stopping me.

There is a loose black & white (and grey) theme here! I guess all of my inspiration is a bit more neutral these days.

I adore everything about the dress above. I love the mis-matched stripes, the tough belt, the soft looking fabric. And I've been dying to try a banded bottom dress. This definitely has me on the look out for some tee shirts I could reconstruct into something similar.

Ever since I saw Kinky Boots (well, actually a bit before that, too) I've been looking at what I call 'fashionable fanny packs'. I know, no such thing, but the above one from ModCloth is adorable. It wouldn't fit my phone, though, which is a problem. I think what I really need is something like a tool belt for when I'm home and working- or even an apron! Still, these fanny pack pouches are adorable and great inspiration for future craft projects (old belt and an old coin purse and I bet you could make this).

This picture! I relate to this picture so much! One, I, too, love Elvis AND 50's skirts, but also it reminds me of all the clothes I made with MCR logos and lyrics blazoned across the front. I love that this sort of DIY tradition has been going on for a long, long time. Yay fangirls!

Also I would wear that whole outfit.

I was scrolling on Pinterest looking for 80's fashion inspiration for a story I was writing when I stumbled across this gem of a picture. (Or is it Jem if it's the 80's?) Those sleeves, the paint staining and tough cut of the jacket are just amazing, but I also love the bold graphic printed dress beneath! And then the plastic looking statement necklace- ugh! This whole picture. Just this whole. freaking. picture!!!!!

I might have also been considering blond as a hair color lately.

This dress is so sweet with it's soft lace and knit fabric, but the flower appliques really appeal to me. I think this would be a good, sweet DIY inspiration and easy to replicate if you wanted to. And I want to.

Since my experiments with wedge booties, I've still been craving wedge sneakers. There is just something about them that I love, and the ones above are by Roxy, the same brand that made my booties. I adore the floral pattern and color of the ones above.

My mom sent me this picture for DIY inspiration! Now that I have short hair, I rock a lot of bobby pins, and I love, love, love pearls (my favorite gem) so this would be both beautiful and practical. I would love to try it with some other beads, too, so they are colorful or sparkly.

And last but not least, even more than a pair of wedges I've been lusting after a classic black and white checkered pair of Vans. I used to have a pair of purple and black checkered ones but I got rid of them (no, I don't know what I was thinking, either!) and I've regretted it ever since. Vans look cute with dresses and jeans and they are very comfortable. I love the black and white ones because I feel they are a classic casual shoe while also being funky and fun.

Budgeting, while hard, has actually been of fun because I've had to 'shop my closet' and I've gotten back in the habit of reconstructing clothes that I already have, something I used to do more frequently and something I really used to enjoy and am happy to be doing once more. I can't wait to show you what I've come up with and I definitely can't wait to share more of my inspiration pictures with you.

And for something completely different, here is a song I've been obsessing over for a few weeks now. I've fallen in love with Radio 104.5 Philly - it's the local alternative sort of station - and I adore the song "Pompeii" by Bastille. Actually, I first heard it just a few weeks after we saw the Pompeii exhibit at the Franklin, which was kind of neat.

The video is also super cool.

Until next time!

  1. I'm in the same situation as you: absolutely NO shopping for me, but it's been really good to shop my closet again, one of the reasons why I started my blog in the first place. I can absolutely see you making/refashioning and wearing that fabulous jacket!! x

  2. Ooh that lace dress is super pretty!!

  3. Great images and inspirations, Meghan! I love the two dresses too and wedge sneakers, which looked weird to me when I first saw them, are now something I love. I really love the floral patterned ones you showed. I was a university student in the 80s and used to watch Jem on tv while I ate breakfast or maybe it was dinner. Love the song too-thanks for sharing.
Oh-nearly forgot-I recently bought a wallet that has a long detachable cross body strap that is really like a belt. It can be worn as a cross body or the belt could go around my hips or waist and even through belt loops. ( It fits my phone but not my keys) That makes it more like a stylish fanny pack so it's so cool that you are thinking about this same sort of thing. I absolutely think you could make one. I look forward to seeing it.

  4. I love that first dress too -- I really want to make some kind of sweatshirt type dress. I think it will be snuggly for winter :)
