Nervous Crafting

Well, as I mentioned before, I was recently unemployed for a little bit (in between jobs) and as you read this I'll be dead smack in the middle of my new position in a doctor's office! I'm super excited for this new experience, even though it's very nerve wracking to be starting something new for the first time in two and a half years.

So, as usual, what do I do when I'm nervous? I craft!

Last year I made a bunch of elastic neck dresses. The elastic was a cop out because I didn't feel like putting in the yoke. They didn't quite look right, though, so I went back and added a contrasting yoke to three of the five dresses. I like it so much that I'm going to fix the other two as well!

Instead of just showing you pictures of the other ones I fixed, I added a little twist. It's been super snowy here over the last two weeks and I've been trapped inside, so I while I was taking pictures of the fixed dresses I also made little dress-up outfits. It was very fun and kept me from going completely stir crazy.

Megan loved this one originally, but with the uncomfortable peasant neck I never wore it. I am sure that now I've fixed it this will be one of my favorites. That cardi I bought on impulse from Retrospect on South St and never wore to work because I was afraid that the beads would get ripped off. Now that I have a less-move-furniture-type job, I hope I get to wear it more often! It's so pretty!

I never even posted this on the blog when it had the wrong neckline because I never once wore it after I made it, and that was earlier last spring. I DEFINITELY love it now! I love this fabric so much.

And finally, my trusty ole Gaslight Anthem shirt dress. I won't be able to wear this to work, but I could see it for shopping on the weekend with friends! (Or if I ever get to go to a concert again ;-) )

Thank you all for the kind comments on facebook, tumblr and on this blog. The last few months were hard but I feel so awesome right now that I can't help but believe 2014 is going to be great! Your support means so much.

Until next time!!

  5. LOVE the cardigan. And congrats on revamping the dresses with the yokes. I'm a lazy seamstress, and stuff turns out better when I actually do the hard stuff. ;P

Also hooray for the new job!

  7. Awesome fixes (I am horrible at actually fixing things... they sort of just get abandoned). I'm sorry for being such a bad blogging friend when you were going through such a hard time (happened to be one of those periods when the internet is too much on top of everything else, but that's a poor excuse). I'm so happy for you that everything worked out and I hope you're enjoying your new job experience!
