OOTD: Return of the Cirque

Hi there! Did you miss me? I sure did miss all you guys. It's been super busy around here lately, but I think I'm finally settling down and will be able to post blogs more often. (Fingers crossed.) And reply to all of your blogs!

It's hard, when life gets in the way and you aren't doing something you love (like blogging and making blog friends) because you're too tired or busy or catching up on chores. Then, when you try to make time, you're just too tired. But, it all works out in the end! Right?!

Dress: Handmade/Me, Boots: Target, Shirt: Thrifted, Belt: Philly Aids Thrift

I have had an insane love of men's shirts from a young age. I don't know why- it's not like they fit me well, but they are so cozy and have the best fabrics and prints and I just - I don't know, I love them. Usually I try to cut them up but this one I couldn't bear to. I love the fabric and I love it the way it is! So I wore it to work today with a newly thrifted belt over top of a peacock print dress. I felt adorable! And my boyfriend thought I looked cute, too!

In the last month I've been to Pittsburgh (or around there), been to Maryland (Tamera I wanted to meet up with you I just had no time!!) and I've finished a class (I had no idea I signed up for a 6 week course and was SHOCKED when finals rolled around). I've been working hard at my job, and I've been struggling with my writing. It's been an insane few weeks. Here are the highlights:

One of the consignors where I work is an AWESOME sign painter and I've been a fan of his for a long time, and I was totally shocked when he brought me this last week! (link and link) I had been having a pretty rough Monday morning, and it only got worse, so this really was the best surprise at the absolute right time. Can you believe the lettering and the skull?! Oh my GOSH it is so awesome. I love it.

We went to visit the boyfriend's parents just outside of Pittsburgh. I can't even tell you how much I love his family. His mom, dad and sisters (and their husbands and kids) are all super fun to hang out with. His Aunt is one of my favorite people and her kids are just SO AMAZING. They showed me my new favorite song- look up Pentatonix Wizard of Aaahs. I loved it so much I downloaded the iTunes single. The above pic was the only thing I was able to snag from the visit- it's a marina where we had drinks and visited with his sister. The sunset over the mountains was beautiful!

You may remember my Radioactive dress (name also inspired by a Pentatonix project with Lindsey Stirling). Well, I've been making those like crazy! They are just my new favorite style dress. So I went out and bought some cute new fabrics on Fabric Row - stars, a Van Gogh style blue, some circles that look like Death Stars, plaid and bug fabric! I can't wait to show you.

And last but not least, this past weekend I visited my mom in Maryland. I mean, I saw my whole family for the first time in two years- brothers, dad, grandparents- but I spent a lot of time with my mom. We are super close and it's hard for us to be so far apart sometimes, but it makes it all the more awesome when we are together. So here are some pictures of my local train stations (the ceiling and the angel are in 30th Street Station in Philadelphia) and my coffee and my tunes (coffee and MCR make for a perfect train ride). I took tons of pics, so I promise a proper talk about my trip to MD.

As it stands right now, I'm super tired, but I wanted to check in and say I'm thinking about you all and I've missed blogging terribly. I hope I get back into it for good this time and I'll see you around the internet! <3

Until next time!

  1. Welcome back! Thanks for sharing all your travel stories. And the outfit is cute. I've never seen you in these colors before. They look nice on you.

  2. Awwwwwww I think I love your family and I haven't even met them! Yep, men's clothes are the best. Why is that? Not fair! Better fabrics, generous cuts, MORE POCKETS!!!! I haven't blog for nearly a month, which is a record for me, but I know how you feel, sometimes there's just so damn much to do (or in my case, not do). xoxoxo

  3. Glad to see you back! I love the menswear shirt with the skirt! You certainly have been busy, but it sounds like you have had some fun!

  4. MEGHAN!!!! ....hi. :-)

Missed hearing from you lots (even though I get the pleasure of seeing you around the facebook).

You are as cute as ever! Love the outfit.

I've been blogging slacking, too, and my life is not even as busy as yours! But I had to stop and say 'hi'! (Back to the Halloween sewing!)

  5. How cool is it that you saw the entire family and get along with the boy's family so well. Secret lover of crisp mens' shirts myself. Envious of the new sign!

  6. Aaaargh! My first comment has been eaten!

How cool that you got to see the entire family and that you get along with the boy's family so well. I have a secret love of men's shirts too--love the crisp fabric. And that sign--I have sign envy.

  7. Lovelovelove your outfit.

Also totally in love with your fabric choices. I bet you have the best and most original collection of dresses.

The angel is beautiful!! I'm glad you had a good trip, love all the snapshots you included.

  8. We love you! Come back and visit again soon! <3

  9. You make me wanna wear a mens shirt, your outfit is really sweet and has a lot of interest to it! I think it's pretty cool that you got along with your bf's family, that makes things so much better doesn't it? I can relate to living far from family it's difficult but sometimes makes you appreciate those relationships more and work harder to maintain them. That sign your pal made is friggin cool and super sweet too!

  10. MEG!!! I MISSED YOU!! I'm SO Happy you're back - you seriously rock that men's shirt!! I can't wait to see what else you make with that delicious fabric!

  11. You look adorable--love the men's shirt over the dress!!
We'll try to meet up another time--that weekend wound up being crazy for me, too (funeral)

Pentatonix RULES--I'm glad they are bring the Sing-Off back again in December!
