OOTD: Baby Birds

Hello!

So I know you've all seen my hair pinned back, but sometimes I wear it loose and curly, too. At first, I felt ridiculous. I thought it made me look kind of clownish. But the curls have kind of settled out and aren't so freshly cut anymore and now I like it!

Dress: Handmade/Me, Shoes: Minnetonkas, Belt: Target, Necklace: Handmade/Me

These dresses are kind of driving me nuts lately. One on hand, I love to make them! On the other hand, I don't know if they look so nice on me. I also kind of feel naked without my jacket and I've been unable to find a good denim vest. There is a person in my life who doesn't feel these dresses are "figure flattering" and while that doesn't particularly bother me because I'm not concerned about that. I think my problem with some of them is color. I've made a lot of these dresses in colors I would normally NOT WEAR EVER and instead of feeling cute I feel... dorky in them. Hmm.

A few weeks ago, I was getting ready for work and I heard this loud banging noise. I rushed to the kitchen and looked out the window to find this little guy! I guess it was time someone learned to fly and his mom pushed him out of the nest. I got excited and ran to show my boyfriend, and by the time we got back two more had landed on the awning. It must have hurt, dropping from the top of the tree all the way to a piece of metal. I snapped a picture so I could show you guys the cuteness.

Also, this past weekend on tumblr  we've been playing with this meme and I thought I'd let you guys chime in. Pick a color, any color, and I'll answer it for you! (This so reminds me of stuff we did in high school.)

  1. I think the dress looks great on you! Whoever said that it isn't flattering is crazy. It's also a fabulous color - I love purple!

    Cute picture of the birds!

And I like orange a lot right now so I'll say orange for your game. :)

  3. I love this print!! Definitely make sure you use fabrics you like - otherwise why would you like the clothes?

I LOVE YOUR HAIR. Seriously it looks awesome. My hair usually gets really flat after a cut and I have to wait a while before it settles into the cut too.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMOG BIIIRDS. So freaking cute. They look like robins to me. So poofy!

  6. I pick pink:). Your new haircut is super sweet I'm loving all your soft curls! I always follow Vix's rule if the dress doesn't make you feel fab, toss it! I do think it wold look nice with a denim vest too. Cute lil birds! My cats would have a field day with that and I would lose my mind with worry. Enjoy the day!

  8. Hm, I thought that figure non-flattery comment was weird. The first thing I thought when I saw your post was, "Oh, that's pretty and flattering." Maybe you look even better in other outfits?

I agree that when dressing a little out of one's element, it makes for being extra sensitive or self-conscious.

Come to think of it, I think I have a dress in a very similar cut, just in plain blue. It is so comfortable I feel like I'm lounging whenever I wear it. That might be one reason I'm partial to yours. >.<

    1. Hi Aya!! These dresses are super comfortable. I love your comment so much. I'm still a little self-conscious when I wear them, but I think it might be all in my mind. Like I don't see myself clearly.

  10. I get that it doesn't feel like YOU, and it shows in your body language. That said you can rock it, the color looks great on you and the cut of dress is classic- I like how you can play with this style- dress it up all growed-up-career-woman style with pointy toed pumps and a chunky necklace. Dress down with the docs, or go 1960s mod with streamlined flat boots or some ballet flats. Don't forget the white eyeshadow.

Have fun with you sewing skills- how I envy them!
