Outfit: Mens Button Up Shirt Refashion

So I have been addicted to menswear for a really long time. In fact, I've mentioned to Megan Mae and a few others that I wish I could look more androgynous sometimes.

Personally, I really love button up shirts. Button up shirts in the guy section of the thrift stores get me every time. They (the shirts) are candy colored, plaid and striped, and just generally awesome. Unfortunately, they are not always the best cut on me (beings as they are guys shirts). And honestly, I could probably buy girls button ups but for some reason I'll never wear them! I know! I'm weird!

So I always try to figure out cute refashions that work on my curvier figure, and usually this ends in crafting disaster. This time, though, with the help of my new favorite pattern (THAT I DRAFTED MYSELF!) I think I've come up with something I like and will wear often.

Shirt: Thrifted/DIY, Jeans: AE, Chucks: Journeys, Top: DOTS
This shirt meets all my requirements. It is not super form fitting (because I find those uncomfortable). It is plaid and made from a 3XL dudes button up. I've already gotten a bunch of compliments on it and I love that! It is a little big, just a touch, but this was the rough copy. I had a red buffalo plaid shirt that I wanted to DIY and was just too afraid to cut into so I tried it out here first. The second one is a little more fitted and I love them both.

The best part? Dolman style sleeves! So this is technically all one piece!

Marvel at the beauty of these sleeves!
I'm pretty sure you're going to be seeing this shirt again and often. Sometimes I have what I call moments of "extreme boy Meghan". You see, even though I love wearing pretty dresses, I'm a tomboy at heart and generally a very casual dresser. Trees got a taste of my collection of wretched tee shirts this weekend when I wore a "God Shave the Queen" shirt out on our adventures. So even though I love being cute and girly and wearing Lisettes sometimes, there are a lot of times where I wish I looked more like a guy. Including my wish to pixie my hair again even though I won't because I know ten seconds later I'll hate it. Shirts like this help. I feel cute and cozy and just a little bit tomboy. I can't wait to make more!

I'm going to enjoy a peaceful (hopefully) Friday off and a hopefully uneventful shift on Saturday. I hope I get to write a bunch. I thought maybe once school ended for the semester that things would lighten up a little around here but I don't think that's going to happen, so I'm trying really hard to relax. See you on Monday! Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Love it. You look great. And it's fun to play with clothes from "the other side." :)

  3. I LOVE how this top turned out. It has a very All Saints feel. The sleeves are the best part.

  4. The dolman sleeves are genius! Did you cut the entire shirt from the body of the 3X men's?

  5. That plaid is great, and I like the restyle you've done, halfway between menswear and womenswear.

When I get my hair cut, I get it CUT... aka pixie. The last was going on three years ago, so I feel overdue. But at the same time I'm still sort of enjoying the long curly-ish hair (that usually looks completely frazzled and insane and I LOVE it!). I think I need to just suck it up though and go for it? Maybe? Or not? So indecisive!
